Why Should Kids Attend Tea Parties?
Tea parties are a perfect example of teaching manners, taking turns, sharing and being mindful of others. Children as young as four years old can enjoy sitting at a tea party, interacting with friends and the importance of all of that.
I can remember my daughter Brittni loved to set up all of her stuffed animals including a purple dinosaur around a little table that was in her bed room. When she could, she would invite her little brother, (that is if he cooperated). She went around her table, talking to her babies and stuffed animals serving them tea and cookies. Then she would help each one sip their tea and she would talk to them about their day.
You don’t need a fancy tea party set for your child’s tea party. Mismatched tea cups and saucers make for a bright and cheerful party. The more colors the more fun! Serve everything as finger foods since that is the correct and traditional tea party way to serve up an afternoon tea.
Get your child involved in the planning and setting up of the tea party.
I recently taught my 4 year old granddaughter how to set a table correctly with the table setting, napkin and silverware. Fork, plate, knife then spoon. In that order from left to right. This is a skill they will use all of their life.
Learning life skills through tea etiquette is important and valuable for their little minds along with sitting still and listening to an individual talk and ask questions is very important to learn at an early age. Then you add waiting for your turn and sharing with your friends coupled with the absence of electronics at the table knowing when to put the devices away is so vital these days.
Also, don't forget about saying 'please' and 'thank you'. This takes constant practice and repetition. Putting it in the context of a tea party makes it fun and it will become second nature after enough practice. Need I say more??
As you can see, there are so many things a child can learn through a simple tea party!
